My current research focuses on the cross-modal integration of multiple sensory systems (audition and vision) in the human cortex using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and behavioral measures. I currently work closely with neuropsychologists and neurophysiologists in this pursuit, and I have obtained NIH funding to carry out behavioral and fMRI experiments to attempt to determine whether abnormal cross-modal sensory processing contributes to the deficits experienced by dyslexic readers. I am also interested in other advanced magnetic resonance imaging applications in the central nervous system, especially diffusion imaging in stroke, diffusion tensor imaging, spectroscopy, and perfusion imaging. I have also been interested in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging in Alzheimer’s Disease.
