Research interests include the following:
1. To improve outcomes after stroke, we are testing an
intervention called COMprehensive Post-‐Acute Stroke Services (COMPASS) model of care. This is a post-‐acute stroke pathway that can help improve recovery, independence, and health for stroke patients discharged home, as well as reduce stroke recurrence. This grant is funded by PCORI, and the trial is designed as a pragmatic clinical trial comparing COMPASS with usual care in 40 hospitals across North Carolina.
2. International Maternal Newborn Stroke Registry, which is a novel registry focused on pregnant women and newborns with stroke. We have 10 sites from around the world entering data on cases, and collecting buccal swabs for DNA analysis in the future.
3. Sex differences in stroke, specifically outcomes, treatment, and prevention.
